| Abstract | Tree species composition, stratification features and abundance distribution of a tropical seasonal rain forest in Xishuangbanna, SW China were surveyed on the basis of the data collected from a permanent plot of 1 ha. Comparisons in species number between this forest and the tropical rain forests of other continents were made. This forest shows an intense tropical tendency in forest flora and is closely related to Malesian forests in flora. However the species number of this forest within a given area and DBH limits is lower than those of Malesian rain forests and some neotropical rain forests, but higher than those of Australian and African rain forests, and even that of tropical forest on Barro Colorado Island. Panama, although the latter is located at lower latitude and experiences a higher annual temperature and rainfall. |
