| Abstract | Interregional hydropower transmission is crucial for achieving net-zero emissions but poses biodiversity challenges at the power-sending end. Balancing carbon emission reduction and biodiversity protection is essential. Traditional studies focused on either biodiversity or carbon emission, leading to divergent conclusions regarding transmission lines and interprovincial relationships. By incorporating a biodiversity-carbon index into ecological network analysis, we determined which specific aspects each transmission line is biased towards and identified key lines affecting this balance. For lines such as Sichuan to Shanghai and Chongqing to Sichuan, the impact on biodiversity substantially outweighs the carbon reduction. Notably, 67 % of interprovincial relationships were imbalanced, with one party benefiting at the expense of another. Provinces like Sichuan and Jiangsu exhibit imbalanced relationships with most others. Therefore, future planning should focus on addressing imbalanced transmission lines and key provinces, particularly by analyzing their energy supply and demand, as well as potential conflicts of interest with other provinces. |
